Diploma in Creative Writing in English (DCE) : IGNOU


The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched the Diploma in Creative Writing in English  (DCE)  in 1988.

The main objectives the Diploma in Creative Writing in English: 
To provide an understanding, skill and professional knowledge about the art of writing; and
to help develop the creative ability of those interested in taking up careers as professional or freelance writers.

Duration of the course
1-4 years

Eligibility: 
Anyone who has passed 10+2 or has completed 20 years on January 1st of the year of enrolment.

Program Fee:
Indian Rs. 2,500.


Admission Details:
• Admission notification is generally released in May/June and the date for submission of filled-in application forms will be 1 July to December 28 for January session and 1 January to July 31 for July session.
• However students are requested to check with the official admission notification for the exact dates related to admission.

Medium : English

Programme Structure:
Two compulsory courses and three electives out of the four offered. Course 6 (compulsory) is a Project.

Compulsory Courses:
DCE – 01: General Principles of Writing (Credits-4)
DCE – 06 : Guided Writing Project (Credits-4)
For DCE - 06,  each student is required to write a report on a subject of his/her choice. The project may be in any area of creative writing, such as fiction (a novella or a set of short stories), verse (a set of poems), or a set of feature articles, etc.

Elective Courses (any three):
DCE – 02 : Feature Writing (Credits-4)
DCE – 03 : Short Story (Credits-4)
DCE – 04 : Writing for Media: Radio and Television (Credits-4)
DCE – 05 : Writing Poetry (Credits-4)
